The Hub's annual event will introduce the "Journalist of the Year Award" to two Afghan journalists, selected through a rigorous process conducted by a committee consisting of Hub members and independent senior media experts before the event. This initiative aims to honor and spotlight the remarkable contributions of Afghan journalists who have demonstrated exceptional resilience and unwavering commitment to the principles of press freedom. The application process for the Journalist of the Year Award will be open to all Afghan journalists for a two-month period, allowing for both self-nomination and nominations by media organizations. The Hub will announce two journalists of the year—one from inside Afghanistan and the other from Afghan journalists in exile.

In a landmark decision by a discerning panel of judges, Anisa Shahid, a distinguished female journalist, was declared the winner and honored as the best Afghan journalist of the year.
